Sweep–The Movie

So they’ve finally announced it in Variety–Sweep might become a movie. Here’s a link for more info:

I don’t know much more than you do, at this point–Alloy, which owns half of Sweep, made the deal. But I really love the screenwriter they’ve hired for the adaptation–he adapted one of my favorite movies, Chocolat, and has done several other terrific movies, so I feel like I’m in good hands.

But I don’t know anything about the schedule or timeline or casting–I won’t be involved in any of that. The author usually isn’t, unless they’re much bigger and more powerful than I am!

Thanks to everyone’s good wishes, and for all the excited tweets and posts! It’s so gratifying to see!

What’s really perplexed me is all the negative comments on some of the film sites, with people hating on Sweep without having read any of them, and saying it’s just like Harry Potter and Twilight. It’s so weird! Why don’t they read one of them first? Then they can hate on it if they want. It’s the dissing without knowing what they’re talking about that’s freaking me out.

But anyway: Sweep movie, possibly. Many things can still not work out. But my fingers are crossed. Thanks so much for all your support!

I accidentally found the first of these books when searching through a resale shop. It looked well-worn. It is even more so now. Though my mom doesn’t necessarily approve of me reading anything about witchcraft and such, I have loved the books I’ve read so far. They always manage to keep my interest. Morgan’s struggle seems so real and sometimes heartbreaking. It makes you just want to reach in and hug her. I can’t wait to find out more about the movie. Hopefully it will be kept as true to the original as possible. With the series being made of smaller books (I’m so glad you did it that way, by the way), it should be easier to adjust the movie. I so wish I could be in it.

I found your books when I was in 7th grade (2002) and instantly fell in love. Morgan is real, and loveable, and genuine, and passionate. So relateable! And Hunter! and Skye! Even Cal is a realistic bad guy! lol. I shared the series with my group of friends and they hooked too. It even encouraged us to research Wicca – which we loved as well. lol. I’m happy for you. My only fear is that the movies will be a horrible portrayal of the wonderful books. Harry Potter wasn’t too bad…. but when they made Blood and Chocolate (Annette Curtis-Klaus) into a movie it was an utter betrayal to all that was special and sacred about the beloved book.

    PLEASE CATE!!! Don’t fall victim!

I originally got hooked on this series upon its initial release, when I was a pre-teen and felt left lost…I am a very big reader and truly love this series. Years later as an adult I still find my mind wandering back to this series when idle or between books. I have read, and reread these books, and also gifted them to other young women. I am anxiously anticipating the movie adaption.

I am so excited for the release of this movie! I have read, and re-read the series so many times and I am completely in love with it and all the characters! Ever since I first read the series, I have hoped for a movie or T.V. show, and I am so thrilled. My only concern is that they won’t stay true to the books. With such an amazing story line, though, they should not have to! Sweep will definitely be a favorite of mine for years to come!

My daughter gave me the books she had (10 of them) I read them in no time, I am now waiting for the thirteen one that I reserved at the library, can’t wait to read it… Hope the movie will be a good representation of the books, don’t want to be disappointed.. Thanks Cate for these books I’m really hooded!

I have loved these books since I read them in high school 7 years ago. I’ve re-read them a number of times since then. I will be so ecstatic if they finally make the series into a movie (or movies most likely)!!! ^_^

I don’t remember when I got these books but I remember how much I love/d reading them.

I’m wiccan myself and had been reading ‘charmed’ and ‘circle of three’ they are so different from eachother that it captured me in so many ways.

I wish there were more but…a movie would be fab.
