I resurface . . .

Some of my favorite authors update their blogs several times a week. I don’t know how they do it. I mean, I know I have to update more frequently, and I aways mean to, but some days it’s all I can do to put on sweatpants, you know? Anyhoo, here’s some quick news bits:

1) I went to Los Angeles and met some of the nice people who are trying to make Sweep into a movie. I of course felt like a country bumpkin, but they were all very nice. They are working toward making Sweep into a movie, but if you thought publishing was slow, the film industry is even slower, and nothing is certain until all of a sudden it’s certain. Right now, it’s still an if. However, I loved LA! My husband went with me and we stayed at a little hotel in Beverly Hills, and we had a great time. I also had lunch with one of my favorite writers, Jane Espenson, who writes for TV. She wrote episodes of Buffy, Battlestar Galactica, the Gilmore Girls, several others, and is currently working on the Torchwood TV show. We had a lovely lunch, and I was a fangirl. We talked about how different it is to write books versus writing for TV.  And though I had a great week in LA, I came away convinced that I never want to work in the film or Tv industries.

I saw one celebrity, Nigel Lythgoe from So You Think You Can Dance. It was very exciting.

2) The second book of Immortal Beloved, Darkness Falls, is finally all finished and put to bed. The cover is going to be terrific. I’m going to post an excerpt here soon.

3) Immortal Beloved came out in the UK and in France in January, and seems to be doing well in both places.

4) Speaking of France, the French publisher has very kindly asked me to come to France in September to do some publicity in Paris, and also possibly in Lille, Lyons, Rouen, Bordeaux, and Strasbourg. I’ve never been to those non-Paris cities, so I’m very excited. I know I will have to talk to strangers, but I’m trying not to think about that part.

5) People keep pointing out that nowhere on this site does there appear a list of all the Sweep (Wicca) books in order. Kind of an oversight that will be corrected soon. In the meantime, here’s a list:

Sweep #1: Book of Shadows
#2 The Coven
#3: Blood Witch
#4: Dark Magick
#5: Awakening
#6: Spellbound
#7: The Calling
#8: Changeling
#9: Strife
#10: Seeker
#11: Origins
#12: Eclipse
#13: Reckoning
#14: Full Circle
#15: Night’s Child
Hope this helps.
Okay–off to work–check back for the excerpt of Darkness Falls!
Cate.

Is Jane Espenson working on the movie?!

And non-Paris France is great, I hope you have fun!

I read the Book of Shadows years ago when I had to catalogue it for a school library I was at. I had to look inside it for the summary and I read it at work in one sitting (for work purposes *wink*) I was hooked and spent days after contacting all the schools so I could borrow the entire series. Not one school had the whole set. LOL I then just purchased the entire series. It brought me into reading YA books, which are sometimes quite good. Sweep was a very good YA series and believe me I have read MANY. In fact I did think it could have been better for adults but it is what it is. I wish you much success on the movie and new series. (Which I haven’t read the new book yet) As to your comment about people hating the idea of a movie without reading the books, my son is 16 and thinks any book on supernatural is “just like Harry Potter” Many teens are like that and now with Twilight it is the same thing. Twilight is like Harry Potter? HUH? LOL I liken the whole thing to “readers” and “non readers” Non readers just read certain books when they become “popular” Real readers appreciate each and every book for the different story they tell. Sweep is unique in it’s story, while countless similar books are popping up now, yours was created years ago. That’s my 2 cents anyways. Also I just recently read A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness a good read and highly recommended. :) Have a great day!

OMG! I love Torchwood I thought they stopped the series?! But besides the point ;; I saw that a store was selling the Seeker (Book #10) for get this you guys … a $1! l: I was so upset I asked them if they got the pricing wrong ;; they didn’t. ( I ended up getting the book never the less.) Bt it shouldn’t even be worth a dollar. I was sad (bt happy tht I got the 10th book.)

I have been searching for information on the second Immortal Beloved book and when it is exactly going to be available. I have gotten two very different dates. One April 1st and another in September. Could you post the date it will be available and where we could get it? Also could we get a sneak peek like you gave us in the first book?

I cant wait to read them both,

    Thanks
    Mechelle

Cause I dream of being a writer even though I’m in middle school.

I literally squealed with joy when I read this news xD So excited. You really are one of my favorite authors, the way you write inspires me to spend more time writing, myself. I’m only 21, and I only hope I can ever come up with something as great as you have :) Balefire is by far my favorite, but Immortal Beloved seems to be sharing first place, at the moment ;) I.cannot.wait.

I love the Sweep Series. I am on book 12. I went through them pretty quick! I took a little break from reading the past few weeks, been busy with work and all, but Im back. I read Origins book 11 in one day, loved it and I wasn’t expecting to.
I wish the series did not end at 15. I do not want it to end.
I am really into the characters and everything about this book. Its a GREAT read. Im 22 and although its set in high school I love it!

  11. Stephanie says:

i began buying the sweep/wicca series in the new version were they publish, for example book 1 and 2 together then 3 and 4 etc… i’ve got up to 8 and they haven’t seemed to publish anymore since and that was a while ago! does anyone one know if they will be publishing the rest of the series like that because i want to complete it :( any help would be appreciated :)

  12. Gabby says:

Stephanie it depends on where you live

  13. Stephanie says:

gabby i live in australia??? does that help??? is it only in the u.s or something?

  14. katie says:

is there any chance you can write more books to the sweep and balefire, has i feel there is loads more to be said :(

  15. Erica says:

I miss Sweep. I finished the series a few weeks ago and I just miss all the characters. I loved the last book but was a little dissapointed the so much time was skipped.

I just ordered Balefire, Cant wait to read it!! :)

  16. Laurel says:

I absolutely loved the Sweep series. I started reading these when I was in 8th grade all the way through high school and I would hate the waiting period until the next one came out. I was so sad when the series ended. I have always wished they would continue!!

  17. Lisa says:

I have been reading the sweep series for about 9 months now… gone through it 3 times. I took 2 weeks off after book 15 but couldn’t stop myself from picking it up.
I have tried reading other book’s, but they dont get me going like the sweep series. I am dyslexic and reading can be hard for me… so finding something that i love and that really captures my imagination is wonderful.
I really do hope they make the sweep series into a movie and it becomes a mega hit.
To me the sweep series is nothing like twilight, (i have never read the books but have watched the movies) so for anyone that thinks it is there totally wrong. The carectors in sweep are empowering, the story touches on real life as well as the fictional aspect that we all love.
I’m not much for words, but i hope i have got what i wanted to say well enough so that people understand.
Please continue your good work Cate, if you can get more people with dyslexia and other learning problems to pick up a book, then your doing a good job.

  18. Jennifer says:

It took me 6 trips in one week to get all 15 books in the Sweep series, and only took about a week and a half for me to read all of them. I’m one of those people that can’t put a book down, so long as I like what I’m reading. After I read all 15, I reread them slower, and payed more attention to detail, and I must say Cate that you’ve done an amazing job! The way you write transforms the imagination, and I’m incredibly happy that your writing will be able to reach others on screen , and I honestly can’t wait.
    Wishing you the best,
    Your fan,
    Jenn

  19. kim says:

I just finished the Balefire series. I am hoping that you continue the series. I have become a huge fan of your books. I started of by reading the Sweep series and can’t put down anything you write.
    Your fan,
    Kim
